The First, “Top Gun”

President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9981 on July 26, 1948, calling for the desegregation of the U.S. Armed Forces. With the stroke of a pen, the President ended 170 years of officially sanctioned discrimination.

The first Top Gun film was released in the summer of 1986, and its sequel is scheduled for the summer of 2022. These two big-budget films with all-star cast members will possibly never mention the origins…
